“In 1997, I was offered to make a video for a remix of the song by Iosif (Joseph) Davydovich Kobzon from the movie “Seventeen Moments of Spring”. I was given several Betacam cassettes with recordings of concerts by Iosif Davydovich. And somewhere I got a film on four three-hour cassettes. In addition, I had a Video8 camera (the format that replaced VHS at that time). I filmed DJ Grove’s epic performance on East Beat (festival) with it. And I made one more shoot in the Port Club: a girl dancing against the background of screens that project a concert by Iosif Davydovich. I edited the clip at the Znaki studio. In those days, you had to buy a special card to digitize the video into a computer. The customer liked the video so much that I was ordered another one for the song “Spy”. These clips opened the Russian MTV that appeared at that time”.

Timur Novikov offered to reshoot the film “Other Problems” on the plot of the opera and allocated money to pay for the editing of Betacam on television. Then Andrius went to the library of the French Institute in the Chapel and chose the opera “Mireille” by Charles Gounod. The costumes were created by Oleg Maslov and Viktor Kuznetsov.

]]> “In 1992, Artur Budnitsky and I went to Kaunas to visit Henrikas Gulbinas, who had a video studio. We shot a film at Henrikas’ house during the evening. At Henrikas ‘ house, we made a movie that night. I had the idea to take the voices of artists Kalyagin and Muravyova from the movie “We met strangely…” and act with them, opening my mouth to the soundtrack. Picture and sound conflict. And one of us spoke in a female voice. Naturally, the film was immediately perceived as homosexual, and when I once again offer Arthur to star in my film, he   says that he will never fit into such an enterprise again in his life. I don’t think I’d fit in right now, and maybe I’d even hate to see my son in a movie like this. But at the time, I somehow didn’t think about it, it was all perceived as harmless hooliganism. I called the film “Problems around the bike”, because the problems of the characters Kalyagin and Muravyova were infinitely far from me, and we discussed them sitting at the bike “Start-highway”, bought in Kaunas. With this film, I was invited to the Ostranenie festival at the Bauhaus school in Dessau.”

]]> The filming of the video was initiated by Vladislav Mamyshev-Monroe, who brought a tape recording of his performance of the song “January Snowstorm Thunders”, which he made with the help of Yuri Kasparyan.

 

At this time, the energetic and gifted Vladik Mamyshev appears on the St. Petersburg artistic stage. It was fun and easy with him all the time. Once he brought a tape recording of his performance of the song “January Blizzard is Thundering”, which he made with the help of Yuri Kasparyan. After listening to it, I was amazed at how well it was done. As good as Mark Almond. We decided to shoot a music video. When they started shooting, it turned out that there was no hot water. Vladik was not confused. With the words “art requires sacrifice,” he took a full bath of icy water and began to undress. But he was never able to dive into the water. In the clip, he can be seen walking into an ankle-deep tub filled with water. He was sitting in a tub of already drained water. I tried all sorts of double exposures and other technical tricks. For example, the lens was half closed, then the film was rolled back, and the second half of the frame was exposed. Thus, the legs turned in one direction, the torso-in the other. By the way, I still have a disk, a sports simulator, on which Vladik was spinning.
