The Speed of Disappearance video is a reflection on disappearance of tangible forms and their transformation into a digital stream of reality images, where colour can be transformed and adjusted until it disappears completely.

It deals with a seamless transition into a new space where virtual forms unite with real forms more and more. It deals with a speed of the change of traditional ways of transmitting and storing information, and also with a new communication among people.

It deals with time, its flow, and impossibility “to step in the same river twice” in the real world (and with getting over time barriers in a virtual one). It deals with the speed of transmission of images, freedom of the relativity of our world and its instability.

When astronauts look at Earth from space, they see no borders, and when people look at the sky, they see no borders either. The newest border which humans have put up in 50 years of space exploration is a border of “space junk”, which may make further exploration impossible in future. It is made up of scrap metal left over from explosions, rocket engines, drips of liquid metal from nuclear reactors, and also everyday items lost or thrown away by astronauts. There are 330 million manmade objects of terrestrial origin. Special organizations have been founded which keep a record of all these objects.

In La-La-Land, the artist visualizes the process of the flight of space junk using 3D animation.

My recollection of this event consists of everything on the equal basis: pictures, door knobs, sculpture and “golden” ceilings, marble staircases, fragrances, talk of the guides and buzz of the rooms. And of course tiredness as after a long walk. Usually after the first visit to the Hermitage one has some sort of kaleidoscope left in his memories. There is amazement and sensation of a beautiful and festive labyrinth”.

The sound-track is a mix of classical and modern music. The video track shows the Hermitage ceilings with the “looking-glass” effect. The sound and the picture give an impression of “beauty vertigo”, the state in which visitor leaves the Hermitage.
