Dream-Film-Game “Crupa” 2017.

The Book Fair at the Krupskaya House of Culture is a place outside of time, between dream and reality. Historically, it happened that the space intended for the realization of the creative potential of textile industry workers declined, and at some point, the building fell into the hands of book traders. Subsequently, a school bazaar, numismatists, esoterics, artisans, and souvenir makers appeared here.

The artistic exploration of the Krupskaya House of Culture reached a dead end, never truly beginning. Therefore, instead of a heart-wrenching story or an inspirational tour of great places, we chose the strategy of allusion, or simply put – a fairy tale.

In a certain kingdom, in a certain state, it is unknown from where and why the princess KAMI appeared. Finding herself in a strange set of circumstances, the heroine quickly realizes her task and takes on a mission – to separate the wheat from the chaff, to understand how the place of socialist ideas turned into a stronghold of capitalism.

Contemporary reflection on dirt, based on the insightful novel “What Is to Be Done?” by Chernyshevsky. In one of Vera Pavlovna’s dreams in Chernyshevsky’s novel, there is a remarkable contemplation on the nature of all dirt. The entire reflection is based on the division of dirt into real and fantastical, reigniting the mechanism of binary thinking. How does dirt behave today? And is there a distinct difference in contemporary media reality, where the actual present exists only in the intensity of affect? Dirt is a revolutionary material for the deconstruction of the body and its everyday life. Dirt is the primordial chaos from which a cosmos is born each time. Do we need opposition to dirt if its own vital nature is destruction and disorder?

The Sounds of the World is a tl audio-visual installation by Francesc Martí built on a network of Raspberry Pi computers and created from a series of Andrei Tarkovsky film clips.

The installation explores the concept of audio-visual sampling, in which real-world images and sounds – captured and digitized – are cut, mixed, manipulated, and reassembled in order to generate new audio-visual materials.

In particular, Francesc has been experimenting with how granular sound synthesis techniques and pseudorandom number generator algorithms – where a computer program produces seemingly random numbers – can be used for generating audio-visual creative works.

The name is taken from this quote by Andrei Tarkovsky, who wrote in ‘Sculpting in Time’: “I feel that the sounds of this world are so beautiful in themselves that if only we could learn to listen to them properly, cinema would have no need of music at all.”

This video contains my attempts at calculation the victims of the Blockade. These numbers are the first thing that comes to my mind when I’m thinking about this tragedy. What impresses me is not only the number but also the difference in numbers from different sources.

In my work I’m trying to I was thinking a lot about how it’s possible for a human being to realize 1000.000 of died people. When we hear the numbers as one million, 28 million, five thousand, etc. we are not able to compare it with real lives, real people.

I try to make calculations in different places and find any method of visualization of such a big number of human victims. All my attempts are just numbers or signs, it’s not possible to find the correct method.

The goal of this video is to focus people on the Blockade and on the scale of this tragedy. But it’s not only about the Blockade, but about victims of any war. With this video I’m trying to show the impossibility to present life victims in numbers, the soulless and anti-humanistic approach of the official statistics with their rounding, measuring, and depersonalization.

This work can be presented on two separate monitors, or projections; or as a single channel composite on one monitor, or projection.

This work is an elegiac meditation on the grandiose architecture of Dubai, the laborers who built the city in “half a generation”, and its pending environmental decline — a visual iteration of the manifest destiny of global capital. Emerging as a dystopic, soulless vision of the future, notions of civil society, individual rights, and identity are subsumed in the logic of capital. The video’s structure, ‘Eve Democracy’ character and sound remix are illuminated by Jean-Luc Godard’s 1+1 (Sympathy for the Devil), with its deliberate and inherent embrace of contradiction, which enables both a fractured narrative and a meta-narrative to operate simultaneously.
