Valeriy Ayzenberg
Valery Ayzenberg is a Russian artist, founder of the ESCAPE program, author of short stories, essays and critical articles.
The artist was born on September 9, 1947 in the Bakhmach city, Chernihiv region (Ukraine). Valery Ayzenberg started his artist career in 1980s. He was the nominee of Kandinsky (2008) and Sergey Kuryokhin prizes, Black Square (2003), Soratnik Prize (2006, 2009, 2010) and Attenthion Prize. Nominee of the literary award “New Literature” (“NOS” in 2014) for the novel “The Tenant”. Among the artists group ESCAPE, he represented Russia at the 51st Venice Biennale. He took part in special projects of the Moscow Biennale and the Moscow International Film Festival, at the Prague Biennale, the festivals “Europeia”, “Contemporary Art in the Traditional Museum” and others. In 2003, the ESCAPE was the first in Russian artists group which received the “Black Square” award for achievements in the field of contemporary art. Ayzenberg has had 40 solo exhibitions and taken part in more than 200 group shows. Valery lives in Moscow, Tel-Aviv and New York.
